Frederick Douglass… Sojourner Truth…Susan B. Anthony… Ida B. Wells… Franklin Roosevelt… Eleanor Roosevelt…Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. … John F. Kennedy… Robert Kennedy… Edward Kennedy… Rosa Parks… Cesar Chavez…Malcolm X… Bobby Seale… Rev. Jesse Jackson…James Carter… Muhammad Ali… William J. Clinton
Every generation has had their motivators, their leaders… someone to stand up for them and their rights, to show them that, yes they could do it! Yes, they could fight for their freedom! Yes they would receive their freedom! Yes, someone cared about what happened to them and their children! Yes, someone believed in them enough to show them how to help themselves and become the best and brightest!
Obama is my Roosevelt! Is my King! Is my Kennedy! Is my Wells! Is my Clinton!
Sure I could count Clinton in my generation, but I didn’t have a choice in the ‘92/’96 elections. My parents and grandparents made that decision for me. But now, it is my time! It is my turn to make that decision for me and the children I will have. I have the opportunity to turn that slogan, “Yes We Can” into action. But not just with my vote… because it doesn’t end on November 4, 2008 and it doesn’t begin then either. It begins now! It’s time for me to be the change I wish to see. The best way I can express a love for children I will have in the future is by giving them cleaner air and water by lobbying for change nationally and globally. The best way I can say I love you is to make sure that they are born into proper healthcare. The best education I can give them is that of a universal love and connection as our country reintergrates itself into peace with our international neighbors. The best way I can keep them safe and snug is by having a leader that doesn’t want to waste their security on unnecessary wars.
I am voting for Barack Obama. I am urging you to vote for Barack Obama. And after you vote for Barack Obama, I encourage you to listen and work on the changes he asks us to make for the future of our children. Educate yourself. Don’t vote out of fear, but vote because you want unity internationally and nationally. Vote because you need GREAT affordable health-care! Vote because you can’t understand why your classmate from high-school is still fighting in Iraq and we haven’t found Bin Laden in Afghanistan. Vote because you want to know what to fear and what not to fear!
Dr. King was an amazing speaker… just like Obama. People followed him because he motivated them. But if no one acted on the dream, I wouldn’t be allowed to vote in this election and I wouldn’t have had a choice about where I could attend college. If no one had acted on the dream, it would have remained a beautiful essay and the most recited speech in American history. We have come a long way… and yes, we still have a long way to go, but we can’t move forward if we stop. We can’t afford to stand stagnant any longer!
Be. Act. Vote.

Today is the second day of the DNC which was started off so beautifully full of change, pride and unity. Our female speaker of the house started it off breathing new life to the DNC, followed by our beloved Ted Kennedy and then our new First Lady Michelle Obama. I missed Ted Kennedy’s speech live, but went online and watched it. I really don’t know what this feeling is that I am feeling on this changing of the guard from the old freedom fighters to the new freedom changers. We are here at this bridge where it is time for us to take a stand. The peace makers and activists from the 30’s 40’s and 60’s paved the way for us… now we have our own leader and we have to stand behind him and help him help us! It’s our time! Take responsibility! Take action and invest in your future! Get involved with your own life and the community!! Take a stand! Be the change you want to see!

For those of you who missed the next President and Vice President of the United States today… I’m sorry!! It was so great to see these two dynamic forces coming together fighting for change. I feel like there is such a large wave that is taking over the planet where people are ready to stake claim on their lives and build on their future. I get a “help me help you” feel from the two of them and I am very confident that whether the senate/congress is republican or democratic change will come to this country. Obama is very diplomatic to both parties and Biden just doesn’t care! My mom refers to him as “Head of Security”. He’s so about kicking ass and taking names, very no nonsense and I think that we need that!! I’m looking forward to this coming election season and the next four years!!
Please encourage everyone you know to get out and register to vote! Once they are registered, please make sure that they do vote on election day!! It isn’t about ” you can’t complain if you don’t vote” anymore… It’s about a change has to come in order to restore our economy and the state of this union. We vote to ensure that are voice is heard on needing to rearrange the power back to the interest of the people and their futures!!

I’ve decided that if straight men can have a “man crush”, then I can have a “girl crush”! So who is the lucky lady you ask? None other than Rachel Maddow!! No it isn’t Beyonce or Halle or Scarlett Johansson. Rachel Maddow, if you don’t know, is a correspondent on MSNBC who occasionally fills in for the other love of my life, Keith Olberman. She told Pat Buchannan that he was an old white guy who couldn’t really identify with anyone else who wasn’t old and white!!! I have to say it was love from that moment on!! hahaha!! She’s just incredible and inspiring and someone that young women can actually look up to! She just received Dan Abrams spot and I will surely be watching every night!! Congrats Rachel!!!!!

Okay… so I wasn’t going to talk about it when McCain first jumped on stage in front of a bunch of bikers and ranted and stuttered asking for Congress to come back from vacation to weigh in on energy and oil. I suppressed my laugh when he vowed to keep them off of vacation once he was President to work on energy and oil… but then I thought about his vow to stay in Iraq for a 100 days and couldn’t help but laugh my ass off!! McCain reminds me of your old drunk conspiracy theorist senile Uncle Leroy at the family barbecue who never shuts up!!! People really can’t be taking McCain seriously… can they?!?!? I mean really… if Barack said some crazy shit like that, you can best believe the Bible belt would be all over it!! I don’t ever remember McCain standing up in the last eight years speaking against our commander in chief taking long vacations in the middle of war, recession, terriosts threats and attacks, etc. He never DEMANDED that the President do his job instead of hunting and plowing on his Texas ranch!!
I really need Uncle Leroy McCain to go sit down somewhere, rock in matching rocking chairs with his mama, find some shirts that fit and let someone who cares about the state of the nation guide the nation! Even the mute button can’t seem to drown out his ignorance!!
