moment for prayer
Everyone has been talking, praying and blogging about the tragedies that have happened over the past few days to Jennifer Hudson and her sister. The murder of their mother and brother and now it is looking like Jennifer’s young nephew as well. I can’t even begin to imagine losing my mother, sibling, child or nephew all at once at the hand of someone you loved.
Where is our society going to where we glorify violence and abuse in our advertisement, entertainment, music and video games? Taking another person’s life is not a right and it shouldn’t be a common happening in our society. We have evolved into a brilliant state of being with the advancement of technology and communication and yet, we have become the most violent. Where are we going?? The negativity that festers in our urban communities has got to stop!! Though most of you reading this may not live in the south or central part of your city, you still purchase the games and the music for yourselves or your children allowing your minds and their minds to become apart of this hate. This self hate! It’s self hate and destruction. We are killing our own society and future generations. There is nothing glorious or genuine about “thug life”! Carrying a gun, being disrespectful to your spouse or significant other, promoting hate, not properly loving and caring for your offspring does not make you a man! Body count does not make you strong… it actually makes you weak! It makes you pathetic and ignorant, selfish and sick! Yes these things happen, but rapping about it and glorifying it isn’t fixing the problem. We have to start pulling these kids out of this cesspool of destruction and filth. Show them the rest of the world. In order to get positive results, you have to create the equation… it won’t create itself!
Three people died in Chicago a few days ago because a man wanted to teach a woman a lesson. And to hurt her he took the three most precious things from her, the lives of her mother, brother and son. And he isn’t the first to do so… but maybe we should start working on making him one of the last.
